Oh, that movie. They were both so beautiful.

I KNOW. And seeing them together always reminds me of that story in Patricia Bosworth's bio of Monty: After he wrecks his car driving down the hills from Liz's home, the friend who had been in another car behind Monty goes back up to Liz's place to call an ambulance, and they all then drive back down to the scene of the accident. Monty is all bloodied in the wreckage, and at one point he starts choking--his teeth had been knocked down his throat--and Liz was the one who stuck her hand in and fished them out, thus saving him from choking to death.

Even if it's not true, it's a great fucking story.

Seeing this made me remember that Mum always made me wag school on Tuesdays cos she wanted to have someone go to the old movies show at the local cinema. I liked it cos it was free for me and cheap for mum (maybe a dollar) and we got tea and cakes. Anyway, my favourite movie was National Velvet... and until now I completely forgot about the ritual.

Oh Dame Liz... we're gonna miss you, baby!

I think I've said this before, but your mum is wonderful. And so was Liz.

Good-Bye, Liz. Hope she has lots of friends to dance with on the clouds.

She'll have her pick of ex-husbands, that's for sure! And Michael Jackson to supply the music.

They don't make them like they used to...

I meant movies when I started to say that (I'm a sucker for that era - that music!), but it applies to women too.

Oh yeah, I LOVE the movies from that era. So much a part of my childhood.

And it does apply to women. This morning on the Today show they segued from Liz to...Lindsay Lohan. Who really should not be mentioned in the same breath as Liz.
