it's good to be the queen

I've been off work for a few days; in addition to that,I've been left to my own devices too (Teh GF is visiting her family). While a normal person would be loading porn into the DVD player or visiting the grocery store with strippers, I've been lounging, reading, and writing. Yesterday I was flipping through a copy of Hart Crane's collected poems and came across a poem that seemed very pleasantly summery. (Mind you, I'm not a big fan of the season, b/c it usually involves a plethora of 90+ degree days and stifling humidity. Boo hiss. But the past two days the temps have been in the low 80s, with low humidity, and it's been pleasantly sunny. So I've actually enjoyed sitting outside in my garden and reading!) Anyway, here's Crane's poem, entitled "Garden Abstract":

The apple on its bough is her desire,--
Shining suspension, mimic of the sun.
The bough has caught her breath up, and her voice,
Dumbly articulate in the slant and rise
Of branch on branch above her, blurs her eyes.
She is a prisoner of the tree and its green fingers.

And so she comes to dream herself the tree,
The wind possessing her, weaving her young veins,
Holding her to the sky and its quick blue,
Drowning the fever of her hands in sunlight.
She has no memory, nor fear, nor hope
Beyond the grass and shadows at her feet.

Teh booze

You forgot drinking in excess... or does that go with the lounging, reading, and writing portion of your day? :D

But yes, agree 100% about summer and the poem is loverly. Thanks for sharing, coz god knows I'd never get around to reading it on my own. :)

Why do you think I have to lounge so much? :)

i love that you like poetry and am disappointed in ways i can hardly express that the GF isn't as fond of poesy. happy to know that you've enjoyed and have been relaxing during your alone time and that the weather's been pleasant as well. (the oh so brief summer i had in NYC, it was quite humid and i remember it well :) if i ever get a chance to visit NY again, you must promise to take me to the infamous grocery store w/ strippers, ok? ::smirk::

Here I am, trying to raise the level of conversation, and naturally the topic reverts to strippers...

...mmm. Strippers. Maybe that's Alex's new gig in WPP.

I used to shop at a grocery store with strippers. In all seriousness, this is true. The strip club was right across the street and the "girls" would stop in on there was some to pick up the nescessities, fruit, pasta, bikini wax. It made shopping so much more interesting.

You're fast becoming my hero. First, you have the lifestyle I envy (hermit by the sea) and now you inform us that you used to shop with strippers! Wonderful.
