Saw this via [livejournal.com profile] jengrrrl. I read A Single Man years ago and frankly I don't remember it being this...exciting in a Hitchcockian way. This will either be very, very good or very, very bad.  Because, I mean...Tom Ford? Of course, he could be a filmmaking savant like Julian Schnabel. And the cast looks fabulous. Cross your fingers.

It looks well shot at the very least. I feel this is going to be one of those movies that if it sucks, I can just rent it, watch it with the sound off, and marvel at all the various forms of pretty (actors, vintage wardrobe and set design) without having to bother paying attention to the plot.

Yeah, I'm thinking it might be best viewed on DVD, with a bottle of wine handy just in case.

Speaking of film, and our good friend Craig, Daniel Craig, have you ever seen this? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0323298/) I'd never heard of it! He's banging a grandma in it! Awesome!

Oooh, I've never heard of The Mother, either, but you bet your ass I will be checking it out. That title gets to the point, doesn't it?

Tom Ford... wow. That was unexpected. On the other hand, it stars Julianne Moore and The Unit. On the other, other hand, I have long ago learned that Julianne Moore has very questionable taste in movies.

The Unit? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Johnson)

Yes, Julianne Moore can be hit or miss...that Psycho remake alone...gah.

Hahah, now that would make for a very interesting gay movie! No, The Unit is another name for Colin Firth in the Stark/Manta household. He can also be referred to as "My pretty pretty" at times.

Ah, I see. Just like in our household "Poodlehead" is another name for Sarah Jessica Parker. And then we have "Ian MacGregor," which can mean either

1. Ewan MacGregor
2. Ian McEwan
3. Ian McKellen
4. Haggis

You just made me choke on my hummus from giggling.

Firth's nickname came from the rather...enhancing riding pants he was wearing in the BBC miniseries of Pride & Prejudice. Let's just say it made an impression.

It does look depressingville. But pretty! And with Colin Firth! Making out with Matthew Goode! Which makes up for the sad factor. I think it looks beautiful. I read that the design team behind Mad Men is working on this, and it certainly shows.

God, this looks gorgeous. Julianne looks a little like she looked in Savage Grace, and I loved that film. She's been in a few stinkers, but when you look at the great films she's been in I think her stats are pretty impressive. Did you happen to see her house for sale? Someone posted it to my facebook page, and it was pretty good. Or is it just me who's obsessed with real estate right now? Sorry.

I have Savage Grace in our Netflix queue. Didn't see her house--where is it?

Or is it just me who's obsessed with real estate right now?

I think that makes you an honorary New Yorker.

Always happy to be an honorary New Yorker, although I have to say real estate obsession also makes me an honorary Sydneysider. Anyway, finally tracked down the url for her townhouse:

Did you watch Savage Grace yet?

$11 million for that? Julianne is very ambitious. I know, I'm being snotty. But that seems a little ridonkulous to me right now.

I need to bump up Savage Grace on the queue! It's a bit buried.

Well, I liked it a lot, but I can't exactly vouch for it. I agree, 11 million seems, well, optimistic.

depressingville

Yes. The novel was very depressing, and I can't quite reconcile this elegant trailer with the book I read.

I love Matthew Goode too, although not enough to subject myself to the remake of Brideshead--I'm too loyal to the book and the TV series to stomach the changes they made to the plot.

Sweetie. I must ask - seemingly apropos of nothing, but trust me, that train of thought is simply impossible to reconstruct - what of the Gabinator fic? Hm? Hmmmmm? (I raise my eyebrow at you. The left one.)

It does look good. Seriously, Julianne Moore really IS everyone's favourite fag-hag, isn't she? I mean if you had to count the movies where there are homos in it and she ain't getting any... then it'd be more than not, right?

Great cast. And really, how wrong can you go with Isherwood (don't answer that!).

Ha! I never realized that about Julianne's movies, but you're right. Come to the Cabaret, Old Hag! (Julianne, not you!)
