So the Yankees did a historic nosedive this year. I admit that the Fox announcers' unrelenting reminders that "no one has ever come back from 0-3 to win yada yada" always made me incredibly nervous...nothing tempts fate like an obvious mantra. (Dear Joe Buck and Tim McCarver: Fuck You Both, you Portentious Know-Nothing Asshats. And one other thing...is it just me, or does Al Leiter look certifiable? Like the Dennis Hopper of baseball: "THIS is the pitch Mussina is throwing! THE CIRCLE CHANGE! YOU HOLD IT LIKE THIS! IN A CIRCLE! SEEE?????")

I'm sad, but also relieved that it's over. The tension was too much, and I don't like the ugly aspect that it brings out--in fans on both sides (the incident in Game 6 with all the throwing shit on the field made me embarrassed to be a Yankee fan). This morning Teh Wife tried to be sympathetic:

Teh Wife [very tiny hopeful voice]: Soooo...this means the Yankees aren't playing any more games this year?
Me: Yeah, we're done.
TW: [tries very hard to look sympathetic]
Me: Oh, stop it.

Gotta love her for trying, though. :)

Also this morning, on the way in to work, I noticed that no one was wearing a Yankee cap (as opposed to yesterday) or sweatshirt, jacket, or whatnot. O fickle fans! I've been a Yankees fan since I was 10. I loved them even in the 80s when they were completely Teh Suck. So I'm still going to wear my cap. (Okay, I didn't wear it this morning b/c I didn't want to mess up my hair...like H, I am a slave to my hair.) But in the meantime:

Let's go [insert NL team here]!

Dear Joe Buck and Tim McCarver: Fuck You Both, you Portentious Know-Nothing Asshats.

Heh. Although you and I have different feelings regarding the outcome of the ALCS, I wholeheartedly agree with you on this point. Buck and McCarver suck ass. I don't care that both of them have strong ties to St. Louis; they annoyed the hell out of me during the entire playoffs. Even my dad, who loved McCarver when he played for the Cardinals, was pissed by his commentating idiocy.

Wow, that says a lot. I can usually forgive former Yankees for broadcasting idiocy. Of course, Phil Ruzzuto was awesome. "Holy Cow!" Damn it, he's like a million years old and he would still be better than those fuckheads Buck & McCarver. In fact, I think Boomhauer [sic} from King of the Hill would be better.

the incident in Game 6 ... made me embarrassed to be a Yankee fan.

So what was going through my head when I watched this happening?
"Jesus, that's totally fucked up. Why can't the fans keep their shit together and then, after the frelling game, go into the parking lot and overturn a cop car or set something on fire like other fans do." Of course, I spent my early youth in Detroit.... :D

Sorry about your Yankees, theholyfan. :(

Hahahahaha...I have a friend who is diehard Tigers fan. She did manage to muster up some sympathy for me. :) (Have you ever read Middlesex? Just asking b/c of the Detroit locale in the book--very interesting stuff.)

Sorry about your Yankees

Thanks, aqua sweetie. :) Next year, as they say.

Hey, you don't have to tap dance around the question. [livejournal.com profile] cabenson has already implied that I write Teh Het too well. I might as well just come out and say it. I can do it. I can I can I can.

I... am... a... straight-male-identified lesbian. [/Lisa doppleganger]

There, I've said it. Feels pretty good. I wonder if the LGBT community center has a support group for that. I wonder if Seattle has a LGBT community center.

I loves my man

So are you going to take a guy name? Like...Brad? We can call you aqua_brad!
From: [identity profile] aqua-blurr.livejournal.com
Love it! I shall henceforth be referred to as aqua_brad (that's very masculine, don't you think?), and I shall wear Aqua Velva and Florsheim shoes with tassels (sassy! manly!).

I just hope that all my lesbian friends can accept me and respect my choice to finally be my brother myself. *wrings hands* *clenches fist in a manly manner and... pounds it against the sofa* Ouchie!

Thankfully, Mrs CB shares my enthusiasm for sports entertainment. Cursedly, she tends to yell at the TV which not only annoys me, but scares the cats resulting in five cases of sever "fluffy tail". Women's College Hops start soon...here we go again!

I've been a Yankees fan since I was 10. I was raised in the era of The Big Red Machine and I LOVED Johnny Bench. Even tried to play catcher till I caught a ball with my teeth.

(Okay, I didn't wear it this morning b/c I didn't want to mess up my hair...like H, I am a slave to my hair.) Same here. If not...well, my icon is a self-portrait. And UNLIKE H, I won't pass up a roll in the hay to keep my hair looking nice.

I tend to slam things. I only yell when I'm alone, otherwise I get "Boy, you are really whack and I wish you'd shut the fuck up" looks from both woman and cat.

And UNLIKE H, I won't pass up a roll in the hay to keep my hair looking nice.

Ditto. She is a true fashionista. :) I hope she hasn't been too traumatized by the game....

On NPR this morning, sound bytes from The Game:

Sox fanguy: "This is the best day of my entire life!"
Yankees fanguy: "This has been the worst experience I've ever had."

OK, so I appreciate the excitement of sports rivalry, particularly this rivalry, but... (it does make me a little frightened for the future of humankind)

"This has been the worst experience I've ever had."

LOL. Without a doubt. Worse than the 2001 World Series, worse than the WS sweep in 1976...

The intensity of the rivalry is kinda scary, and it's been at fever pitch the past couple of years. Now I fear it's only going to get worse!

what about the bums? if you can recall, when previously having convos about baseball, i had already opined my thoughts on my expectations of the dodgers. i still bleed dodger blue, but oh to be back in the days when they could actually follow through on their potential. ::dejected sigh::

At least they got closer this year and actually made the playoffs (suck it, Bonds!). And you must be happy that the Yankees took that miserable rag bag Kevin Brown off your hands, just so that he could fuck up on a grand scale, and on a different coast. :)

From: [identity profile] angharad_gov.livejournal.com
funny thing though, people who get traded away from the dodgers usually do better for their new teams. i've always thought that there's something in the dodger organization which helps screw up the potential for the blue crew to have a good year. we *have* good players, but something always happens in the end to fuck it all up. after the 80s, it has been a downhill slide.

::more dejected sighing::

okay, i'm now officially depressed, holybaseballfan.
