Because I'm getting paranoid about the fanlib.com thing: From here on out, all writing entries will be friends only, and I've already locked all previous writing posts (except for a few silly old SVU fics).

If you're not on my friends list and want access to future writings, leave a comment and, if you seem relatively trustworthy, I'll add you. (Bonus points if you are already a friend of someone on the list.)

I apologize for not adding you sooner...when I first got on lj, I mindlessly friended everyone who friended me. Nowadays, I'm more cautious and I prefer getting to know someone for a bit beforehand.

I lock every post-- not because I think I'm a friggin' genius, but because what I write here, I write for the people I've come to know through first--uh, TWoP-- and now, LJ.

I highly doubt that anyone from that site would want anything I've posted here lately, but it irritates me to no end that some random corporate 'fan site' thinks they can grab the work of anyone I know and claim it belongs to them. Especially if it's a work in progress and the writer is looking for constructive criticism and/or positive feedback.

Or just plain privacy.

Well, if Charo is a special guest star on an SVU episode next season or if Casey makes a Knut reference...sue 'em, baby! But I know what you mean. I want to be open with what I write, because I like to get the feedback (who doesn't?). But when the current climate produces something like fanlib...It makes me angry. They're setting themselves up as some kind of middleman between the individual fan/fandom at large and tptb that own/run the shows...and there's no need for it. At least not the way they are handling it. Both sides need their advocates, of course, but not a group poised to snatch and sell works that they did not create in any fashion whatsoever.

Time will tell in seeing how successful their endeavor is, though.

It is a big gray area. But I think those of us who create the fic have to protect our (limited) rights in whatever way possible. We're not making a profit off it, so I don't think it's right that an organization like fanlib should make a profit off it.
